FALL 26: TREND FORECASTING

Sep 24
3 min read

I know it is crazy to think, but fall is already here. And while I am not quite ready to let go of summer, the thought of fall clothes definitely helps. Jackets, boots, layering, and suddenly finding a reason to wear chocolate brown with everything. There is definitely a lot to look forward to...

This season, I think we are taking our classic fall styles and making them a little more interesting. More texture, more unexpected combinations, and a little more personality. The pieces themselves can be simple. However, what you do with them makes the outfit.

If I had to crown my “Color of Fall 2026,” I would say khaki. And I don’t just mean khaki pants. No, no. Something much more elevated and chic. Khaki jackets, khaki sweaters, khaki skirts, khaki bags. You get the point. My prediction has some support, too: Vogue’s fall forecasting highlighted “cardboard khaki” alongside shades of camel and brown. Personally, I love the idea of mixing these sandy tones together, especially when the fabrics are different. Think a soft tan knit with a structured khaki skirt. Vogue

But, of course, we are still leaving room for some bold colors. Plum, olive green, and blue are all on my list, and royal purple made a strong showing on the fall runways. I would wear a purple sweater with chocolate-brown trousers, or let a blue shirt peek out from under a neutral jacket. Easy combinations that still give you something to look at. Who What Wear

High necks are another big one, and this goes beyond a good mock-neck sweater. Funnel-neck outerwear appeared across the fall collections, bringing that raised, sculptural neckline to jackets, coats, and capes. This is probably one of the easiest trends to work into an everyday wardrobe: the collar does most of the styling for you. I would keep everything underneath simple and let the jacket have its moment. Chic and effortless. Fashionista

Then there are the scarves. Neck scarves and dramatic bows both appeared on the Paris runways, but my personal take is the bandana scarf. Tied loosely with a sweater or tucked into an open jacket, it feels casual and a little playful. For colder days, I would look for a soft wool version. Practical, and so, so cute. Fashionista

While none of these trends are necessarily new, animal prints, fringe, and statement belts are still on my radar for Fall 26. Zebra, especially, feels like a fun way to break up the neutrals, and animal prints continue to appear on the fall 2026 runways. Personally, I would go for a zebra shoe or bag with an otherwise simple outfit. W The same goes for a fringed bag or a bold belt. Nothing revolutionary, just those little details that make a familiar outfit feel a bit more interesting. And if you already have them in your closet, even better.

And yes, flannels. Nothing over the top or overdone. Just a classic flannel. The runway version of plaid was more adventurous, including blue at Louis Vuitton and army-green shades at Dries Van Noten. For everyday wear, I like the idea of a slightly relaxed plaid shirt with a slim skirt and boots, or jeans and some flats. Still familiar, just styled with a little more intention. Fashionista

That mix of casual and dressed-up pieces might be my favorite direction for fall. Prada paired sporty jackets with little silk skirts, which makes me want to experiment more with the pieces already in my closet. A baseball tee with a satin midi skirt. A fine knit with capris while the weather still allows it. Something polished with something easy. W

My plan is to start with a few combinations I haven’t tried before and see what feels like me. But if the right khaki jacket happens to come along, I will absolutely be making room in my crowded closet!

Happy Fall!

XOXO,

G.
